Potato Fun Facts
The Irish were the first to use the slang name ‘Spuds’ when referring to potatoes. The name came from the ‘spades’ used for digging potatoes. Another story claiming the origin of the word ‘Spud’ attributes the name to a 19th century activist group known as The Society for the Prevention of an Unwholesome Diet (SPUD).
